THE FLATS – Georgia Tech Swimming and Diving swept the men’s weekly conference awards, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced Tuesday.
Mert Kilavuz won swimmer of the week in his third meet on The Flats. Ruben Lechuga takes home the diver of the week honor after competing for the first time this season.
The freshman emphasized the gold portion of the White and Gold moniker over the weekend. Kilavuz broke the program record in the 1000 free (9:01.21). His 1000 free time was the best in the ACC over the weekend and second best in the nation.
Kilavuz also turned in the top time in the ACC from the past weekend in the 500 free (4:26.14) and 1650 free (15:32.96). His times in the 500 free and 1650 free were 11th and second, respectively, in the nation over the weekend.
For the year, Kilavuz has the ninth best time in the nation in the 1000 free (9:01.21), the best time among freshman. Kilavuz is just outside the top 10 in the 1650 free at 11th (15:32.96).
Lechuga saw his first diving action this season for the Jackets. Lechuga is no stranger to ACC honors having won All-ACC every year he has been at Georgia Tech.
Lechuga turned in his top score of his career on the 3-meter board (391.13) over the weekend. All four events Lechuga competed in over the weekend were zone qualifying scores.
The Yellow Jackets next meet is back home in McAuley Aquatic Center for the GT Invite. The event runs from Nov.18-Nov.20 and holds prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
