The Jackets host a talented field that includes Florida A&M of the MEAC, College of Charleston of the CAA and Chattanooga of the Southern.
The Yellow Jackets, 19-12 a year ago, bookend the opening day, kicking off the action with a 10:00 a.m. match against the Rattlers of FAMU (15-11), and concludes the evening with a 7:00 p.m. tilt against the Mocs of Chattanooga (14-18).
Following a day off, Tech will conclude the tournament with a 1:00 p.m. match against the Cougars of C of C (27-8).
Set: The Yellow Jackets have had great success against their opponents in the tournament, sporting a combined 81.5 all-time winning percentage (22-5). They’re 19-5 all-time mark against Friday opponents Florida A&M, picked to win the MEAC South, and Chattanooga, picked fifth in the SoCon. Tech is 11-0 all-time against Florida A&M, and 8-5 against Chattanooga. The Jackets are 3-0 against Charleston, which takes its maiden voyage as a member of the CAA. They last met Florida A&M in 2010, and Charleston in 1998. In between, in 2002, they met, and handled Chattanooga.
Spike: Georgia Tech is 11-1 all-time in the Georgia Tech Invitational/Courtyard Classic in their four years under Johnson and have won eight straight matches.
