2020 (Sophomore): Appeared in 10 games as a pinch hitter or utility backup infielder in the shortened 2020 season … Made 11 plate appearances … Recorded three putouts and five assists on the season.
2019 (Freshman): Appeared in 20 games as a pinch hitter or utility backup infielder … Finished with two hits on nine at-bats, one RBI and four walks … Reached base .533 in his limited appearances … Took his first collegiate at-bat in his fourth appearance at home against Northwestern (March 1) … Recorded his first-career hit in his next at-bat against Notre Dame (March 30) … Had his best game against Notre Dame when he entered mid-count for an injured Chase Murray at designated hitter … Inheriting two strikes against him, Benson walloped a two-out single to left center to score the would-be game-winning run in the 4-3 victory … Also drew two walks and scored one run in the NCAA Atlanta Regional opener against Florida A&M (May 31).
Before Tech: Attended Marist School … Lettered three years on the varsity baseball team playing third base and shortstop … Helped Marist to a 4A State Championship in 2017 … Ranked as a top-25 shortstop by Perfect Game in the heavily recruited state of Georgia … Named a 2018 Perfect Game Preseason All-Southeast Region Honorable Mention after playing in 25 games in the Perfect Game circuit in 2017 … Batted .271 in 70 at-bats, finishing with 19 hits, three triples, two doubles and eight RBI … also stole seven bases … A five-time all-tournament team selection, earning the distinction four times in 2016 and once in 2017 with East Cobb Athletics.
Personal: Is the oldest of three children — has a brother and sister … Chose Georgia Tech because it’s “a very good academic school, great baseball school and challenging all around that will push me to be better.”
