Softball's Knobbe and Sumrow Garner Second Team All-South Region Honors

ATLANTA – Tech softball catcher Anne Knobbe (Brea, Calif.) and center fielder Heather Sumrow (Humble, Texas) have been selected second team All-South Region, it was announced today.

Knobbe, a junior, was second in the Atlantic Coast Conference in batting average with a .362 average, and paced the league in home runs with 10 and RBI with 62. She set school records in both of those categories and established a new Yellow Jacket career home run mark with 24. Knobbe finished the year with a .976 fielding average and threw out 23-of-74 would-be base stealers.

Sumrow, also a junior, was fifth in the conference in batting average with a .343 average and she handled 70 chances in the field with just one error. The team’s lead off hitter, she totaled 57 base hits, 27 runs and eight stolen bases on the season.

Tech finished the year 22-38 under first-year head coach Kate Madden and was 1-2 in the ACC Tournament with a 6-2 victory against North Carolina.
