THE FLATS – Hunter Bunch has been named an assistant coach for Georgia Tech softball, coach Aileen Morales announced on Friday. The staff’s new addition will primarily serve as hitting coach while overseeing the outfield for the Yellow Jackets. Off the field, Bunch will coordinate recruiting for the White and Gold.
“I am excited to welcome Hunter and his wife, Micayla, to The Flats,” said Morales. “It was apparent through this search that Hunter possessed great hitting acumen, but more importantly, he values developing relationships and connecting with players. I am eager to begin working with Hunter as he gets to Atlanta and joins our staff!”
Bunch comes to The Flats after making his mark on the Incarnate Word program as an assistant coach over the past two seasons, overseeing the offense. The future Yellow Jacket helped boost the Cardinal bats across the board in his first season, resulting historic power numbers as they set a single-season program record of 29 home runs in 2022. Bunch helped improve the team batting average and on-base percentage once again in 2023. The incoming assistant also contributed defensively with infielders and outfielders at Incarnate Word. Off the field, Bunch had a heavy hand in recruiting and camps with the Cardinals.

Prior to joining the collegiate ranks, the offensive mind led the Texas Bombers travel softball organization as head coach from 2019-21 while also serving as an assistant coach with St. John XXIII College Preparatory over that span. Bunch was on staff with the Texas Bombers for over three years, beginning his tenure as an assistant coach his first year and leading as director of analytics throughout the duration of his time with the program. Notably, he guided his 16U Bombers team to a top-five finish nationally during the summer season.
Bunch earned his bachelor’s degree in history from Montevallo in 2014.
