THE FLATS – Georgia Tech softball launches its 300 for 30 years fundraiser in order to further the program and help raise funds for a new scoreboard at Shirley Mewborn Field.
The first softball team at Georgia Tech was founded in 1987, and thus, allowing over 175 student-athletes to wear the Yellow Jacket uniform for the past 30 years. In honor of this huge milestone, Georgia Tech softball is asking its supporters and all of those associated with the program—past and present—to participate in its “300 for 30 Years” fundraising initiative which calls to raise over $91,000 in support for the program.
Every contribution will go towards furthering the Georgia Tech softball program with a portion of funds being used to replace the current scoreboard which has watched at least fifteen Yellow Jacket teams take the field.
“We are excited to celebrate 30 years of softball at Georgia Tech,” said head coach Aileen Morales. “It is truly incredible to think about how many lives have been impacted because of this sport and the lasting opportunities it has provided us. It is a blessing to have an administration that supports our efforts in fundraising for a video board, as well as to have alumni and supporters of our program who are willing to invest in this initiative.”
Georgia Tech softball is inviting supporters and alumni to donate anywhere from $1 to $300 in dollar increments. Anyone donating over $50 will receive a gift from the Alexander-Tharpe Fund as a special thanks, while those donating at the “Pearl Level” (donations of $400 or more) will receive a unique gift that commemorates this special initiative. “I am proud to announce all of our current players, coaches, and support staff have already pledged an amount, which speaks volumes about our team’s commitment to this campaign,” said Morales. “Our student-athletes understand people have invested in them, and they are excited to be a part of working towards something that will greatly improve our program’s brand and game-day experience. I am honored to be a small part—as a player and coach– of the 30 years of softball at Georgia Tech. I look forward to what the future holds for our players and our program.”
