New Stadium Celebration Moved To Sunday  |  Listen Live All Weekend

What’s On Tap…

Georgia Tech (24-8, 2-1 ACC) hosts Florida State (24-9, 2-1) in a crucial ACC series this weekend. The Yellow Jackets and Seminoles are currently part of a four-way tie for first place atop the league standings. Tech and FSU will play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. and then game three of the series will be Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Series…
Georgia Tech is now 16-41 all-time against Florida State after winning two out of three last year in Tallahassee. Behind a Brittany Barnes home run and two-run triple by Aileen Morales, the Jackets won game one of the series 5-2. After falling 10-2 in game two, Tech captured the series finale with a 6-2 win in the final game. Barnes was 2-for-3 with another home run and three more RBI.

Weseman, Yee En Fuego…

Freshman Kelsi Weseman batted .652 (15-for-23) last week en route to ACC Player of the Week honors. In the month of March, Weseman is hitting at a .519 (27-for-52) clip with 18 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, three home runs and 18 RBI. That is good for a .865 slugging percentage and a .583 on-base percentage. The Yellow Jackets are 15-3 in March so far.

Weseman is tied for fourth in the ACC in batting (.420), tied for fourth in hits (37), tied for eighth in runs scored (22), first in doubles (11), tied for sixth in triples (2), seventh in RBI (24) and fifth in slugging percentage (.693). Yee, meanwhile, has been an on-base machine this season. There have been only three games where she has not reached base and she now has a team-high .544 on-base percentage. Yee is tied for fourth in the ACC in average (.420), first in runs scored (32), second in doubles (10), tied for sixth in triples (2), second in walks (21), second in on-base percentage (.544) and third in slugging percentage (.750). She has been intentionally walked four times so far.

Home Sweet Home…

The Yellow Jackets have enjoyed a 9-1 record thus far in Mewborn Field and the numbers are pretty impressive. Tech is out-scoring the opposition 68-19 and out-hitting them .373-..229. The Jackets have 39 extra-base hits, including 19 home runs, and are slugging .687.

Whitney Haller is one of three starters hitting over .500 as she is batting .538 with two home runs and five RBI. Kristen Adkins is hitting .522 with five home runs and 14 RBI, while Kelsi Weseman is hitting an even .500 with five doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI. All told, seven of Tech’s nine regulars are batting over .300 and Tiffany Johnson has hit five of her team-high 10 home runs at Mewborn Field. Johnson and Adkins have also combined to go 8-0 in the circle with a 1.02 ERA.

Tid-bits…

Senior Blair Shimandle has not made an error now in her last 122 games … She also set a new school record when she stole four bases in game one against Georgia Southern on Tuesday. Nine different Yellow Jackets, including Shimandle, had swiped three bases in a game … Since giving up a walk-off grand slam against No. 2 Florida on Feb. 15, senior pitcher Tiffany Johnson is 7-0 with a 0.62 ERA. She has allowed just 24 hits and five earned runs in 56.0 innings, while walking 14 and striking out 60. Opponents are hitting just .128 against her in this stretch … 10 different players have hit at least one home run this season and eight of them went deep for the first time in their careers … Tech has 37 home runs this season which is 10 more than second-place Virginia … Kristen Adkins came into the March 10 home opener against Tennessee Martin without a home run or RBI in a Tech uniform. She hit the game-winning, two-run home run in game one and in the 13 games since then is batting .455 with three doubles, five home runs and 20 RBI … (Tech’s two catchers — sophomore Jessica Weaver and freshman Kate Kuzma — have thrown out 12 of 23 would-be base stealers. They have each thrown out six runners trying to steal and Weaver has a pick off to her credit as well.
