Softball Falls to UC Santa Barbara, 6-2

SAN JOSE, Calif. (March 10) – In the final game of pool play at the National Invitational Softball Tournament in San Jose, Calif., the Yellow Jackets (11-13) fell to UC Santa Barbara (9-9) late Friday night, 2-6.

The Gauchos jumped out to an early 2-0 lead behind a home run from Mandy Edwards in the first inning and an RBI single from Jami Trinidad in the third.

Georgia Tech would come back and tie the game in the top of the fourth as Anne Knobbe and Kori Jacobson both reached on singles followed by Abby Bickford who hit a singled and drove in two RBI.

However, in the bottom of the fifth, the Gauchos would strike again and score three runs as Georgia Tech allowed a walk, two singles and a three run RBI double.

Jamie Smith (5-7) took the loss for the Yellow Jackets as she gave up six earned runs on nine hits and walked two.

The Yellow Jackets completed pool play in the tournament with a 0-3 record and face Central Michigan at 3pm EST in bracket play.
