Smith and Mitchell Named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Jeremis Smith and Janie Mitchell were named Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, November 27, 2006.

Smith, a junior from Fort Worth, Texas, helped the Jackets to two victories and a spot in the Maui Invitational Championship Game. Scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds including five offensive boards in a 92-85 come-from-behind victory over Memphis. He grabbed a total of 25 rebounds in the three games in Hawaii. Smith is averaging 10.3 points per game and is second on the team in rebounds, averaging 6.3 per contest.

Mitchell, a junior from Jackson, Miss., led the team with 18 points and eight rebounds in a loss to Temple. Scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed eight boards in a 62-59 loss to the San Diego Toreros. She is second on the team with 16 points per game and leads the Jackets with 8.2 boards a game. Mitchell currently ranks seventh in the ACC in rebounding and sixth in scoring.
