Sixth-Ranked Jackets Close Regular Season in North Carolina

THE FLATS – The sixth-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team concludes the 2017 regular season slate this weekend traveling to No. 28 NC State on Friday before concluding play at No. 15 Duke on Sunday.

THE SCENE: Georgia Tech, winners of the past 16 matches and ranked No. 6 nationally, heads to North Carolina this weekend for the final two regular season contests. The Jackets sit atop the ACC standings with an unblemished 12-0 ledger. Both Duke and North Carolina follow with an 11-1 mark in ACC play. Overall, Tech boasts a 22-2 record.

First serve at NC State on Friday is slated for 5 p.m. at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Complex. The Wolfpack are coming off a 4-3 loss at Virginia Tech and carry a 17-8 overall mark and 6-6 ACC ledger into the final weekend of play. The Jackets will have a one day break before making the short trek to Durham for a noon first serve against Duke at the Ambler Tennis Stadium on Sunday.

Duke, ranked No. 15, dropped its first match of the ACC season on Wednesday, falling 5-2 at UNC to snap a 13-match winning streak. Overall the Blue Devils are 17-4 on the season.

ITA RANKINGS – In the latest ITA rankings released Tuesday, Tech boasts three Jackets ranked nationally in singles: No. 47 Rasheeda McAdoo, No. 81 Paige Hourigan and No. 83 Johnnise Renaud. Tech has one doubles tandem ranked in No. 21 Johnnise Renaud/Rasheeda McAdoo.

NC State’s Martina Frantova sits at No. 73 in the singles rankings, while the Wolfpack duo of Martina Frantova and Anna Rogers are ranked No. 13. Duke boats four players ranked nationally in singles: No. 36 Meible Chi, No. 56 Chalena Scholl, No. 85 Samantha Harris and No. 113 Kaitlyn McCarthy. Duke also has two doubles tandem nationally ranked: No. 45 Meible Chi/Kaitlyn McCarthy and No. 80 Chalena Scholl/Kaitlyn McCarthy.

LAST TIME OUT – Tech finished the regular season home slate undefeated, topping Boston College 5-2 and Notre Dame 7-0 last weekend.
