THE FLATS – Georgia Tech football’s Tariq Carpenter (Ludowici, Ga./Long County), Malachi Carter (Lawrenceville, Ga./Mountain View), Jordan Mason (Gallatin, Tenn./Gallatin), Tre Swilling (New Orleans, La./Brother Martin), Juanyeh Thomas (Niceville, Fla./Niceville) and Keion White (Garner, N.C./Garner) are all on the official “Big Board” for the 2022 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl, which was announced on Thursday.
Founded in 2012, the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is one of the premier opportunities for football players to showcase their talents to potential employers and fans. The 10th-annual NFLPA Collegiate Bowl is set for January 22, 2022 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. and will be televised live on NFL Network. Carpenter, Carter, Mason, Swilling, Thomas and White were included on the Big Board based on their potential as NFL Draft prospects.
Carpenter, a 6-4, 225-pound safety, has amassed 158 total tackles and four interceptions over four seasons at Georgia Tech, including each of the last three as a starter. He has also been credited with 19 passes defended and two forced fumbles as a Yellow Jacket.
Carter, a 6-3, 195-pound wide receiver, has caught 39 passes for 586 yards and six touchdowns in three seasons at Georgia Tech. The vast majority of his production has come in two seasons under head coach Geoff Collins, when he has hauled in 36 receptions for 530 yards and five scores while starting 21-of-22 games.
Mason, a 6-1, 218-pound running back, is just 90 yards short of becoming only the 17th 2,000-yard rusher in Georgia Tech history, as he has amassed 1,910 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns in three seasons as a Yellow Jacket, despite being limited to just six games due to injury as a junior last season.
Swilling, a 6-0, 196-pounder, is a three-year starter at cornerback for Georgia Tech. Like Mason, he was limited to just six games in 2020 due to injury, but has amassed 19 passes defended over the course of his career, including 11 in 2019, when he was an honorable-mention all-Atlantic Coast Conference selection.
Thomas, a 6-3, 217-pounder who has started opposite from Carpenter at safety for each of the past two seasons, has racked up 134 tackles (93 solo), three interceptions and three forced fumbles in three seasons at Tech. He also holds five school records as a kick returner, including most kickoff returns for touchdowns in a season and career (2).
White is in his first season at Georgia Tech after transferring from Old Dominion. At ODU, the 6-4, 267-pounder started eight games as a redshirt freshman tight end in 2018 (11 receptions for 124 yards) before transferring to defensive end as a sophomore in 2019. In his lone season as an end (ODU opted to not play football in 2020), White earned second-team all-Conference USA honors and tying for 10th nationally with 19 tackles for loss.
Georgia Tech opens the 2021 season on Saturday, Sept. 4 when Georgia Tech opens the campaign at home versus Northern Illinois. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. and the primetime contest will be televised nationally on ACC Network.
