Shosho Continues Stellar Play, Leads Tech Women at Michigan Invitational

Ann Arbor, Mich.– – Lyndsay Shosho remained undefeated at both No. 2 singles and doubles to lead Georgia Tech on day two of the Michigan Invitational, a three-day hidden dual match event being held in Ann Arbor, and hosted by the University of Michigan. The Yellow Jackets competed against Michigan in singles play, winning three of six matches, and played Eastern Michigan in doubles, taking two of three from EMU.

For the tournament, Tech has now won eight of 12 singles and four of six doubles matches while outright winning one singles and both doubles matches and splitting the second singles competition.

Winning singles matches on day two were Shosho, Alison Silverio and Lindsey Stauss. Silverio downed Kavitha Tipirneni by a 7-5, 6-0 mark in the No. 3 position as the only Yellow Jacket to win in straight sets on the day. Shosho, competing in the No. 2 position for the second straight day, topped Michigan’s Elizabeth Exon 7-5 in the first set before dropping the second by a 6-1 score. She came back with a 6-3 win in the third frame, however, to remain undefeated for the tournament. Competing in the No. 6 position for Tech was Lindsey Stauss, who defeated Kara Delicata in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Shosho teamed with Maria Nieto in the No. 2 doubles slot and defeated Eastern Michigan’s Loose and Lincaru, 8-5. Also recording a doubles victory for Tech was the freshmen duo of Stauss and Silverio in the No. 3 position, as they won their match 8-2 over Kanusthi and Adzic.

Shosho has now posted two singles and two doubles victories in the tournament as the only unbeaten Yellow Jacket in both positions. Silverio and Stauss both remained unbeaten in singles while winning one doubles match together, while Sekita Grant has won one singles and one doubles match for the Jackets. Rounding out the lineup for Tech are Kelly Anderson, who owns one double victory teaming with Grant, and Kacie Anson and Maria Nieto, with one singles win apiece.

Georgia Tech will conclude play at the Michigan Invitational tomorrow, facing LSU in singles, and Michigan in doubles play.
