Ann Arbor, Mich. – Lyndsay Shosho and Sekita Grant recorded singles and doubles victories to lead Georgia Tech on day one of the Michigan Invitational in Ann Arbor, Mich. The Yellow Jackets competed against Eastern Michigan in singles play, winning five of six matches, and played Louisiana State in doubles, taking two of three from the Tigers.
Shosho and Grant won their singles matches in straight sets. Shosho downed EMU’s Kansuthi at No. 2 by a 6-0, 6-1 mark while Grant defeated Clark, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 4 singles slot.
Alison Silverio, and Kacie Anson both went three sets in their winning singles matches while Lindsey Stauss shut her opponent down in straight sets. Silverio shut out Liracari, 6-0 in the first set at the No. 3 position before falling 2-6 in the second. She came back in the third frame with a 6-2 score for the win. Anson, playing in the No. 5 slot, won her first set 6-2, but then fell by the same 6-2 score in her second set before battling out a 6-4 victory in the third and final frame. Stauss shut out Adzic, 6-0 in the first set at No. 6 singles and put away her opponent 6-2 in the final set. Maria Nieto rounded out singles competition at No. 7 with a win over Michigan’s Lindsey Goldstein, 6-4,6-1
On the doubles side, Grant teamed with Kelly Anderson in the top slot and defeated Fantilli and Sermon from LSU, 8-3. Shosho and Maria Nieto competed in the No. 2 doubles position and downed Mung and Caliari by an 8-6 score.
Georgia Tech will continue play at the Michigan Invitational tomorrow, facing either LSU or Michigan in singles, and Michigan or Eastern Michigan in doubles play.
