Shelton & Miller Receive Top ACC Women's Tennis Honors for 2008

ATLANTA – Kristi Miller has earned another spot in the Atlantic Coast Conference record book, becoming the first Yellow Jacket to be tabbed ACC Women’s Tennis Player of the Year, while head coach Bryan Shelton has been named the ACC Women’s Tennis Coach of the Year the ACC Office announced Thursday.

Miller, a senior from Marysville, Mich., has been ranked among the nation’s top-10 in singles and doubles in 2008 and has been instrumental in helping Georgia Tech finish atop the league standings and capturing its fourth-straight regular season title. She went 10-1 in ACC matches this season and also posted a 6-4 mark atop the doubles lineup.

Shelton received ACC Coach of the Year honors for the second-consecutive year, and fourth in his nine-year coaching career on the Flats. The former Georgia Tech All-American has coached the Yellow Jackets to back-to-back ITA National Team Indoor Titles and three-consecutive ACC Championships entering this week’s ACC Tournament play.

Georgia Tech led all schools with four selections on the 2008 ACC Women’s Tennis All-Conference team, as Miller, Amanda McDowell, Whitney McCray and Christy Striplin were tabbed to the squad.

The honor is Miller’s fourth, while McDowell, McCray and Striplin have all been named to the team for the first time in their careers.

The 2008 ACC Women’s Tennis Championship begins today at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. Coverage of the four-day tournament will be made available On-Demand every night by 9 p.m. on ACC Select from April 17-20.
