Shaw, Flood Lead Jackets in 5000m at Florida Relays

March 30, 2018

Day 1 Results

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Georgia Tech outdoor track and field’s senior Tanner Shaw led the way with a time of 14:36.61 in the 5000m run on Thursday night at the Florida Relays.

His performance is just a tenth of a second off his previous season-best set earlier this season at the Yellow Jacket Invitational – a time that ranked second-fastest in the ACC entering this weekend.

The time placed him 14th overall in the highly competitive heat, but was the third-fastest time among ACC competitors.

In the women’s 5000m, Ellen Flood demolished her previous personal record, running a 17:57.67 – nearly seven seconds faster than her previous record. The 27th-place finish is the second-fastest performance by an ACC student-athlete in the event and would be a top-10 time overall in the conference.

The Yellow Jackets get into the full swing of a busy weekend on Friday, March 30 as it enters day two of the Florida Relays, as well as begins competition in the Stanford Invitational and the San Francisco State Distance Carnival.
