GREENSBORO, N.C. – Georgia Tech junior outfielder/second baseman Shannon Bear and senior pitcher Kristen Adkins have been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively. This is the first career honor for Bear while Adkins receives her second Pitcher of the Week award this season.
Bear hit .429 for the week, collecting six hits, three runs and nine RBI. She also recorded four doubles, one home run and a stolen base. The Grayson, Ga., native finished the week with at least one RBI in each of her five games. In Friday’s game against Jacksonville State in the Buzz Classic, Bear blasted a solo home run as the Yellow Jackets won 4-3. Later that day against Evansville, she went 3-for-4 at the plate. All three of her hits went for extra bases as she drove in a career-high four runs and scored twice. Georgia Tech earned an 18-1 victory in that game.
Adkins picked up three wins on the week, pitching two complete games and one shutout. She started the week at Georgia State, giving up just two hits and one walk en route to a 3-0 victory. Adkins had a career-high 10 strikeouts against the Panthers. On Sunday against UAB in the Buzz Classic, Adkins allowed three hits and walked two in five shutout innings of work. For the week, she had a 0.74 ERA.
