Seven Jackets Qualify for NCAA Track & Field Championships

GAINESVILLE, Fla.– Sophomore All-American Chaunte Howard broke a NCAA Region Championship meet record in the women’s high jump with a clear of 6’3.25″ on Saturday night at the Pearcy Beard Track on the campus of the University of Florida.

The women’s 4x100m relay team of Dana Rogers, Ashlee Kidd, Andriane Lapsley and Amandi Rhett broke the Tech record with a time of 44.00, finishing third to qualify for the Outdoor NCAA Championships in Austin, Texas, June 9-12.

Rhett tallied a fifth-place finish in 100-meter dash (11.58) to qualify for the NCAA Championships. Rhett finished ninth in the 200 (24.24).

Kidd posted a personal-best time of 51.76 in the 400 meters to finish second and qualify for the NCAA meet in two weeks.

Senior Brendon Mahoney also punched a ticket for the NCAA Championships with a third-place finish in the men’s 1500 meters with a time of 3:50.25.

Joining Mahoney at the NCAA meet will be teammate Montrell Person. Person posted a third-place finish in the men’s 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.66.

Junior Marcus Canty competed in the men’s javelin throw for the Yellow Jackets, posting an 11th-place finish with a throw of 209’09”. Sophomore Brandy Depland finished 29th in the women’s long jump with a leap of 18’03.75″ for the Jackets. Depland tallied a sixth-place finish in the women’s triple jump with a mark of 42’10.00″.
