Seven Former Yellow Jackets to Compete at 2008 US Olympic Track & Field Trials

EUGENE, Ore. – Chaunte Howard and Angelo Taylor lead a group of seven former Georgia Tech track & field standouts who will compete at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials from June 27 – July 6 at Hayward Field on the University of Oregon campus.

Howard currently holds the top mark in the nation in the high jump (6 feet, 6 inches). She was a three-time NCAA Champion in the high jump while competing on the Flats. Howard was also a member of the 2004 US Olympic Team that competed in Athens, Greece.

Taylor, a two-time Olympian and gold medalist, will look to represent the United States for the third time when he competes in both the 400m and the 400-meter hurdles. Taylor ranks third in the nation in the 400m with a time of 44.05 and is ranked seventh in the 400m hurdles with a best time of 48.45.

Shantia Moss recently completed her four-year career on the Flats with her fourth All-American nod after placing third in the women’s 100-meter hurdles at the 2008 NCAA Championships. Moss currently holds the 16th-best time in the nation (12.96) in the hurdles event.

James Lemons II capped his career on the Flats by garnering All-American honors in the triple jump at the 2008 NCAA Championships with a best mark of 54 feet, 1 ¼ inches for a fifth-place finish. Lemons has registered the 16th-best mark U.S. mark this season.

Former All-American Ashlee Kidd will compete in the 200- and 400-meter dash at the trials. Kidd is ranked 13th in the nation in the 400m with a best time of 51.46. Brandy Depland, a three-time All-American in the triple jump as a Yellow Jacket, has a best mark of 44 feet, 5 ¼ inches to rank 14th in the nation.

David Krummenacker, a two-time NCAA Champion in the 800-meter run, will also try and make the Olympic squad. Krummenacker enters the trials with the 21st-best time in the nation in the 800m this year (1:46.75).

Joining the former Yellow Jackets will be sophomore Alphonso Jordan, who had a season-best mark of 52 feet, 9 ½ inches in the triple jump. Jordan’s mark is the 25th-best in the nation this season.
