Georgia Tech sprinter Amandi Rhett won the 100 and 200 meter races and anchored the Yellow Jackets to a school-record performance in the 4×100-meter relay, and freshman Chaunte Howard set a school record in winning the high jump to highlight the Georgia Tech Invitational Saturday at the Griffin Track.
Jessica DeFreitas (long jump), Bryan Swarn (400 meters) and Michael Massey (high jump) also won events for the Yellow Jackets.
Dana Rogers, Andriane Lapsley, DeFreitas and Rhett combined for a school-record time 44.70, bettering the previous school record of 45.31 that had stood since 1993. That quartet was already qualified for the NCAA Regionals, and Rhett added regional qualifying performances in the 100 with a time of 11.41 and the 200 with a 23.60 clocking.
In the high jump, Howard cleared 6 feet-3.5 inches to eclipse the school record of 6 feet-0.5 inches that she set earlier this season. Howard also placed second to DeFreitas in the long jump. DeFreitas leaped 19 feet-9.0 inches, while Howard*s jump was 19 feet-0.75 inches.
Other top Tech finishers in running events included Shanta Smith with a second-place showing and a regional qualifying performance in the 400 meters (54.17), Amy Dock with third place in the 3000 meters (10:03.37), and Dana Rogers was fourth in the 100 hurdles (13.83).
The Yellow Jackets will return to action next week when they travel to Knoxville, Tenn. to participate in the Sea Ray Relays.
