COLLEGE PARK, Md. — Freshman Anna Saum posted a school record time of 2:03.30 in the 200-yard backstroke in Saturday morning’s prelims to place eighth and advance tonight’s final at the 2002 ACC Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships at the University of Maryland’s Campus Recreation Center.
Classmate Cara DeVinny enjoyed a strong swim in the 200 fly, finishing 10th, setting a Tech record and earning a NCAA “B” cut of 2:02.69. She will swim in tonight’s consolation final, as will Lisa Hancock who placed 12th in that event. Ashley Skala was 21st and Jill Vukmanic was 24th, both earning a spot in the bonus consolation final.
Moeko Wallis also set a school record, going 51.98 in the 100 free. She placed 14th and will swim in tonight’s consolation final. Sara Gilli and Jennifer Christenson placed 20th and 21st, respectively, and will swim in the bonus consolation final.
Katie Duffy placed 15th in the 200 back to reach the consolation final, while Hancock was 17th and will swim in the bonus consolation final.
The meet concludes with tonight’s finals at 7 p.m. Tech is currently in eighth place with 165 points.
