ATLANTA – Sophomore Sam Morgan will make his second straight appearance at the NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships, as he will travel to Long Island, N.Y., on March 25-27. Morgan will represent Georgia Tech in the 400- and 1500-meter freestyle events. Tech will be one of only 42 teams that will have a representative at the meet.
“Sam has a good shot at scoring in the mile,” said head coach Seth Baron. “Right now he is seeded ninth, and it’s his best event. He has been training hard so we will wait and see what happens in the 400-meter freestyle, which is like a sprinting event for him.
“For there to be only 42 teams at the NCAA meet means it was very difficult to get into the championships,” said Baron. “That is a very low number, I think the women’s meet had 62 teams present this year and the men’s meet had around 63 teams last year.”
Morgan tallied third and fourth-place finishes at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships in the 1650- and 500-yard freestyle events. The Gainesville, Ga., native posted top times of 15:07.52 and 4:25.64 in those events, ranking him ninth and 43rd in the NCAA.
All preliminaries will begin at 11 a.m. with the finals starting at 7 p.m. The results for the entire Men’s NCAA Swimming and Diving Championship meet can be found at 2004 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships
