Safra Solid In Berlin

BERLIN, Germany – Georgia Tech swimmer Yuval Safra recorded a pair of impressive finishes in Open Water events at the 2014 European Championships this past week in Berlin, Germany.

On Sunday, Safra finished a grueling 25k (15.5 miles) race in just more than five hours (5:10:09.6) which was good for seventh place overall in the field of 18 swimmers.

He was 11 seconds back of the winner, Axel Reymond of France.

Earlier in the week, the rising junior from Israel was 33rd in the 10k (6.2 miles) open water swim in just under two hours (1:53:51.8).

He was just four seconds shy of the winner Ferry Weertman from the Netherlands in the tightly-contested event.

Rising Tech senior Nico van Duijn from Switzerland also qualified for the European Championships and swims the following schedule beginning Monday:

Monday: 50 Fly Prelims/Semis, 4×100 Free Relay Prelims/Finals
Tuesday: 50 Fly Finals
Wednesday: 200 Fly Prelims/Semis
Thursday: 200 Fly Finals
Friday: 100 Fly Prelims/Semis
Saturday: 100 Fly Finals, 4×200 Free Relay Prelims/Finals
