Rhett Leads Tech in Day One of U.S. Olympic Trials

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Amandi Rhett finished 18th in the quarterfinals of the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.72 to lead the Georgia Tech track and field teams at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Friday night at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.

Sophomore Brandy Depland finished 21st in the qualifying rounds of the women’s triple jump with a mark of 39’3.75″.

A pair of 1998 Georgia Tech graduates, David Krummenacker and Angelo Taylor, posted qualifying marks in the 800 meters and 400-meter hurdles to advance to the semifinals of the Olympic Trials.

Krummenacker, a two-time NCAA national champion in the 800 at Tech, posted a time of 1:48.09 to move on to tomorrow night at 9:10 p.m. ET.

Taylor, a Gold medallist in the 400m hurdles in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, finished ninth in the quarterfinals with a time of 49.78 to advance to tomorrow night at 7:20 p.m. ET.

Two-time women’s high jump NCAA national champion, Chaunte Howard, will compete at the Trials on Saturday night at 8 p.m. ET. Howard holds the U.S. top mark, 6’6″, along with former North Carolina grad, Tisha Waller.

The U.S. Olympic Trials will be televised on NBC (WXIA-Atlanta) from 8 p.m.-9 p.m. ET on Saturday, July 10th. For additional meet information, including results, go to U.S. Olympic Trials Schedule and Results.
