GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Jeremy Greenwald, Shawn Roberts, Zack Fanelty and Brandon Lasater of the Georgia Tech track and field team won the 4×800-meter relay at the Florida Relays for the second-straight year and broke the 20-year-old Georgia Tech school record in the event Saturday at Percy Beard Track.
The quartet recorded a time of 7:16.89, which tops the previous school record set in1994 at 7:18.94. Last season, Georgia Tech edged Florida in the men’s 4×800-meter relay with a time of 7:22.37 to win the event and the Jackets did it again, edging the Gators by one second to claim the victory.
The women’s 4×800-meter relay team run by Laura Serres, Malin Trollsas, Morgan Jackson and Caroline Kissel placed sixth with a time of 9:07.72.
The Georgia Tech men’s DMR team comprised of Nat Estes, Alexander Reese, Cole Jackob and Patrick Fleming also finished sixth in a time of 10:04.39.
In the field events, Jonathan Gardner placed third of 30 in the triple jump with a distance of 15.73m (51-07.25). On the women’s side, Julienne McKee took 15th of 30 with a leap of12.37m (40-07.00).
The Yellow Jackets competed in the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn, Ala. Saturday with much success.
Samantha Becker finished second in the pole vault with a height of 3.95m (12-11.50). Nikita Kirillov also placed second in the men’s pole vault with a mark of 5.30m (17-04.50).
Donjhae Jones and Carissa Tipler finished third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. Jones recorded a distance of 5.79m (19-00.00) and Tipler logged a 5.73m (18-09.75) mark.
Freshman Grant Hicks placed fifth in the 1,500 meters in a time of 4:01.80. Also in the mid-distance category, Samantha Kiblinger placed 12th in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:16.01.
In the hurdle events, Ama Larbi placed 10th in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.58.
