Reis, Bell, Tuminello Named Academic All-ACC

Jan. 26, 2006

ATLANTA–Senior Chris Reis and sophomores Travis Bell and Kevin Tuminello were named to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Academic football team, announced Thursday by ACC Commissioner John Swofford.

The ACC All-Academic team recognizes those football players who have achieved a 3.0 grade point average or better for the fall semester and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher while making significant contributions on the field. The complete team is listed below.

Reis, a two-year starter for the Tech defense at safety and linebacker, was named to the All-Academic team for the third straight year. The Management major from Roswell, Ga., was the Jackets’ second-leading tackler last fall with 84.

Also a Management major from Roswell, Bell is a two-year starter at placekicker who made the All-Academic team for the second year in a row.

Tuminello is a Building Construction major from Youngstown, Ohio. He is the starting center on a Tech offensive line that led the ACC in fewest sacks allowed.

Reis, Bell and Tuminello are among the 25 members of the Tech football squad who achieved a 3.0 grade point average or better for the fall semester. Other Tech starters in that impressive group include linebacker KaMichael Hall, defensive tackle Joe Anoai, defensive end Adamm Oliver, guard Matt Rhodes, tackle Brad Honeycutt and long-snapper Gavin Tarquinio.

Also making a 3.0 or better last semester were quarterback Nick Barwig, safety Jake Blackwood, linebacker Travis Chambers, running back Jason Davis, linebacker Gary Guyton, kicker Brian James, kicker Tyler Jones, fullback Matt Kamp, linebacker James Liipfert, tight end Colin Peek, wide receiver Robbie Rollins, defensive tackle Darryl Richard, wide receiver Charlie Saunders, offensive lineman Dan Voss, snapper Zach Ware and linebacker Mark Youngblood.
