Rakitt 4-0 for @GT_MTEN at Bulldog Scramble

THE FLATS – Nathan Rakitt captured a pair of straight-set victories Saturday to remain undefeated on the weekend at the Bulldog Scramble at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.

Rakitt, ranked 76th in the nation, defeated his second nationally-ranked foe in the event with a 6-4, 7-5 win in the morning session over No. 40 Andrew Harris of Oklahoma. The junior from Marietta, Ga., ran his weekend mark to 4-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 afternoon win over Kentucky’s Jerry Lopez.

Meanwhile, Tech went 5-5 overall in singles for the second straight day. Freshmen Daniel Yun and Christopher Eubanks each split their matches Saturday, with Eubanks earning a 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 afternoon win over 118th-ranked Beck Pennington of Kentucky, his second win over a ranked foe this fall. Yun defeated South Carolina’s Thomas Mayronne, 6-2, 6-4, in the morning session.

Carlos Benito also split his two matches Saturday, scoring a 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2 win over the Gamecocks’ Andrew Schafer.

Tech also split its doubles matches Saturday against teams from Georgia. Yun and fellow freshman Elijah Melendez got the win with an 8-4 decision over Eric Diaz and Andy Martinez.

Sunday’s schedule begins with a round of doubles at 9 a.m. followed by a round of singles.

Tech, Georgia, Georgia State, Kentucky, Louisville, Oklahoma and South Carolina have players in the competition. The format is no-ad scoring in singles and doubles, and a tiebreaker at 7-all in doubles.
