Question and Answer with Safety Dawan Landry

Sept. 27, 2005

What is something most people don’t know about you?

“I’m just a fun guy to be around. When most people first see me, they tend to think that I’m quiet but once you get to know me, you’ll see that I’m a real joy to be around.”

What would be your ultimate Sports Center highlight?

“It would be picking off a pass against UGA at the end of the game with the score tied and running it back 100 yards for a touchdown.”

If you had to exchange wardrobes with someone on the team, whose clothes would you want?

“It would probably be Eric Henderson. He’s just a really good dresser.”

Tell about one visible scar…

“I have one on my right knee that I got when I was five years old. I fell off my bike and scraped my knee pretty bad.”

If you could relive any single family outing in your life what would it be?

“My family and I went to Tennessee once when we were taking my older brother to Vanderbilt, which is where he played college football. We got to see him practice and it was also my first time that I was able to run around on a college football field and just be on a college campus so it was a lot of fun.”

If you could have season tickets for any team, sitting in any place in the stadium, which team would it be and where would you sit?

“It would have to be for my home team, the New Orleans Saints, and I’d sit on the 50-yard line.”

Who has had the greatest influence on your athletic career?

“My dad. He pushed me to get better and was always there to motivate me. He also taught me to never be happy with being average and to never settle.”

If you were forced to give up all of your possessions but one, what would it be?

“My cell phone, because I have to be able to call people.”

What is your best non-athletic talent?

“I can draw. I can’t come up with something to draw, but if I can see a person, landscape, or building, I can usually draw it.”

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned from being a college athlete?

“I’ve learned that you have to work hard to get to where you want to be. Nothing will ever come easy and you have to be ready to pay the price if you want to be successful.”

Do you have any pre-game rituals?

“When we’re stretching, I usually pick up a little bit of dirt and grass off of the ground like Russell Crowe does in the movie Gladiator.”

What is the best thing about being a college athlete at Tech?

“Being able to play football every Saturday during the fall is by far the best thing. I consider myself very fortunate to be able to play college football so I don’t take it for granted because not many people get that chance.”

Besides Bobby Dodd Stadium, what is your favorite stadium to play in?

“I like Florida State’s stadium. It’s really loud down there and it’s just a great environment to play college football in.”

What has been the most memorable game that you have been a part of?

“The Maryland game of my sophomore year is the most memorable. We won 7-3 and it was pretty much a defensive battle. It was good to be able to shut a team down like that.”

What won’t you miss about being a college athlete?

“I will actually miss it all. I really enjoy everything about being in college and playing football here.”

What is your all-time favorite meal?

“I really like fried shrimp so a shrimp Po’boy would have to be my favorite.”

If you could make one thing come true for a friend, what would it be and for whom?

“I wish some of my friends from high school who didn’t get scholarships could get the chance to play college football. They didn’t get the chance that I got and since they root so hard for me, I play every game for them.”

What team would you add to the schedule?

“I’d like to play LSU since my brother is a junior there and plays safety for them.”

Favorite musical artist:

“I really like to listen to Jay-Z.”

What is the last music CD that you’ve bought?

“Lil’ Wayne.”

What is your favorite TV show:

“Martin, because every episode makes me laugh.”

Who is the person who you’d like to meet (dead or alive)?

“Michael Jordan, because he was my idol growing up.”

If you could play any other sport at Tech, what would it be?

“Basketball. It’s the one sport that I’ve always remembered playing since I was young.”

Besides playing in the NFL, what other professional plans do you have after graduation?

“I’d like to invest in real estate and work in that field.”

Name a professor that has had an impact on you here at Tech:

“Peter Vantine was my marketing and brand management professor. I liked his classes because they were always fun and very interactive.”
