GREENSBORO, N.C. – For capturing three first-place finishes in three individual events, sophomore Caio Pumputis was named the ACC Swimmer of the Week, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Carrying forward momentum from an impressive summer, the Brazilian native helped lead the Yellow Jackets to two conference wins against Florida State and Pittsburgh in the tri-meet in Tallahassee on Oct. 6.
Individually, Pumputis started off the day by turning in a 55.87 to win the 100 breast. He then went on to take the 200 breast later in the day by posting a 2:01.19, posting a 59.29 split on the first 100 (28.52/30.77) before finishing a shade over a minute at 1:01.90 (30.70/31.20).
He then added the exclamation point on the day by winning his third and final solo first-place finish in the 200 IM. Grinding out the hard-fought win with a time of 1:48.82, he split 31.85/25.42 on the final 100 to get the gold.
Not finished yet, the sophomore also helped Georgia Tech snag a first-place title in the 200 medley relay. He was joined by Rodrigo Correia, Christian Ferraro and Daniel Lim en route to the victory.
The Yellow Jackets will return to Atlanta as they host FGCU, SCAD, Miami and Notre Dame on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 19-20 at the McAuley Aquatic Center. Friday’s action is slated to begin at 3 p.m., while Saturday will get underway at 11 a.m.
