Rising senior Natasha Prokhnevska and rising sophomore Alexis Prokopuik were tabbed as ITA Scholar Athletes, the ITA announced on Thursday.
The honor is the third straight for Prokhenvska and the first for Prokopuik. Both Prokhnevska and Prokopuik were named to the ACC Academic Honor Roll and to the All-ACC Academic Tennis Team.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman thorough senior year).
Prokhnevska is a senior biochemistry major. The Wilmington, Del., native completed the 2014-15 season with an 11-13 overall singles record and a 12-5 record in doubles. She went 6-9 in dual matches in singles play, playing mostly on courts three and four. Prokhnevska was ranked as the #81 singles player in the country in the first week of the ITA’s 2015 rankings. She clinched two matches for the Jackets this season, against #59 Florida State and NC State. In doubles, Prokhnevska went 6-4 in dual matches and played mostly alongside on court three. The duo went 6-2 this past season.
In her first season as a Yellow Jacket, Prokopuik went 9-8 in dual singles matches and 1-6 in doubles matches. She is an environmental engineering major and hails from West Vancouver, British Columbia. In singles, Prokopuik played on courts four through six, tallying 3-2 records on courts four and five. Prokopuik’s singles victory against Allison Miller, 7-5, 1-6, 7-5, at Notre Dame clinched the Yellow Jackets’ 4-3 victory. Prokopuik played on court two in doubles, mostly alongside sophomore .
