Powlen Leads Tech on Final Day of Kentucky Invitational

Lexington, Ky. – Redshirt freshman Andy Powlen finished fourth in the men’s shot put with a throw of 55 feet, 5 ½ inches, to lead the Georgia Tech men’s track and field team at the Kentucky Invitational on Saturday afternoon.

Freshman Nigel Orr finished fifth in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 48 feet, 10 ¼ inches.

Sophomore Derek Hoye and freshman E.C. Gibbs rounded out top finishes for the men’s team. Hoye clocked a time of 47.72 in the 400 meters to finish seventh, while Gibbs finished eighth in the mile with a time of 4:19.17.

The Yellow Jackets will be back in action at the Clemson Classic, next Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21. -30-
