ATLANTA – After posting a 4.0 grade point average in both semesters in the 2011-12 season, Georgia Tech men’s track and field athlete Eric Powers was named to the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-District Team.
Powers has also maintained a cumulative GPA of 4.0 in Chemical & Biomolecular Engineering during his time on the Flats.
First-team Academic All-District honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.
This season, the junior set a personal best time in the indoor mile at the VT Elite Meet finishing in 10th with a time of 4:09.34, also setting a personal best in the indoor 3,000m run with an 18th place finish at the ACC Indoor Championships in 8:20.01.
During the outdoor season, Powers had a PR in the outdoor 1,500m run at the Georgia Intercollegiate Invite with a second place finish in 3:47.81 while also setting a personal best time at the UCF Invite of 9:10.55 in the 3,000 steeplechase winning the race.
