Georgia Tech 73, The Citadel 41

Opening Statement
“I was pleased with our overall effort this afternoon. When you play a team that is a little younger – and Chuck (Driesell) has done a great job with those guys in terms of how hard and how physical they play – I thought their physical-ness took us a little by surprise in the first half. Give them credit; that young team plays hard for 40 minutes and they’re going to get better. That’s some tough travel to play the other night at St. Bonaventure and then to come down here and play. Believe me, I’ve been up at St. Bonaventure. To get anywhere from there is difficult. I thought our guys responded. We challenged our guys, and they’re going to get to go home for a few days. But they had some business to take care of first. They did it. We went out there and they played really good defense, and rebounded the ball well in the first half. Moved the ball, hit some shots. Again just showed a different level of maturity in talking care of what you need to take care of and still playing Georgia Tech basketball.”

“(It was) an unbelievable crowd today. I guess we had a huge walk-up crowd and they were tremendous. It’s probably a lot of new fans – their first time in the building – so that was good to see. Our support is starting to gain some momentum. Those people that came today – that was a huge lift for our guys, there’s no question about that.”

On the bench play…
“I thought some of our guys off the bench – Kam (Holsey) played really well – getting those other guys minutes really helped us.”

On being undefeated at home…
“Let’s hope the unbeaten streak continues, but it’s a great basketball venue. And it’s starting to feel a lot like home. And you have a situation like today where it’s the holidays, and the students are gone, and you still see people filling the stands as the warm-ups are ending … that’s good to see. The crowd was loud in the beginning when we were making some really good plays. You want to create an atmosphere here where this is one of the most-difficult places to play in the ACC. It was at one time, and we’re trying to get that back.”

On the play of the big men…
“They did a great job. It’s the second game in a row where we’ve had a much better effort on the glass. They had 12 offensive rebounds, but they missed 44 shots. But those guys were good on the offensive glass – Daniel was tremendous. He does so many things that don’t necessarily go in the stat sheet. Then you add in Julian … our four big guys did a really good job today.”

On the play of Robert Carter, Jr…
“Robert did kind of kick-start it. But I thought in limited minutes – only 19 minutes, Mfon (Udofia) was really, really good again. Robert and Mfon provided a spark early and everybody really followed from there.”

Opening Statement
“I’m disappointed we didn’t win the basketball game. We came here to win the game as we always try to do, but this is a very good Georgia Tech team. They are big, long, athletic. They gave us problems offensively. You’re not going to beat too many people, no matter who we’re playing, shooting 19% in the first half, 25% for the game. Their defense really bothered us.”

On three-point shooting…
“We’ve had games where we’ve made threes, and there have been some where we’ve struggled. I’ll have to look at the film, but I feel like we had some pretty good looks at them.”

“This is a learning experience for my guys to come into this environment. It’ll make us better, and hopefully we will shoot it better. If we had, I don’t know if we would have won the game, but it certainly would have been a better outcome.”

On the difference in the game…
“Size. I coached at Maryland for four years. We did pretty well against them. They had had some size too, but this is a big a (Tech) team that I can remember, in terms of their size inside. That will bode well for them, I would imagine.”
