Person Advances to Finals of 110m Hurdles

RANDALL’S ISLAND, N.Y. – Georgia Tech’s Fatmata Fofanah, Ashlee Kidd, Andriane Lapsley, Shantia Moss, Shantrell Moss, Montrell Person and Dana Rogers all qualified for the finals to lead the Yellow Jackets at the NCAA East Region Track & Field Championships on Friday.

Shantia Moss, a freshman from Tamarac, Fla., clocked a personal-record time of 13.37 in the women’s 100-meter high hurdles to post the third fastest qualifying time of the session. Fofanah, a sophomore from Bronx, N.Y., tallied a sixth-place finish to advance to the finals in the 100m hurdles. Rogers, a senior from East Point, Ga., finished the 100m hurdles in 12th place with a time of 13.59.

Person, a senior from Merriville, Ind., won heat three with a time of 13.72 to qualify for the finals of the men’s 110m hurdles. His time was the second fastest time of the session.

The women’s 4×100-meter relay team of Rogers, Kidd, Lapsley and Shantrell Moss moved on to the finals tomorrow with a qualifying time of 44.64 to finish the night with the third-best time.

Kidd, a sophomore from St. Petersburg, Fla., also qualified for the finals of the women’s 400 meters with a time of 53.10. Senior Brian Ford, a native of Ashland, Va., finished the men’s 400 in 19th place with a time of 47.82.

Lapsley, a junior from San Antonio, Texas, ran the fourth fastest time of the evening in the women’s 100-meter dash (11.47) and seventh best time in the 200-meter dash (23.51) to advance to the finals in both events on Saturday. Shantrell Moss logged a 16th-place finish with a time of 11.94 in the 100.

Freshman Jerome Miller finished the finals of the men’s high jump in seventh place with a mark of 6 feet, 11 inches. Miller, a native of Stafford, Va., tied for third in the event, but finished seventh due to misses at attempted heights.

In other action for the Jackets, senior Neil McDonagh clocked a time of 3:51.23 in the men’s 1500 meters to finish 16th, while freshman Derek Hoye finished 21st in the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:54.80. Senior Jonathan Spillman finished 21st in the finals of the men’s shot put with a mark of 51 feet, 8 and ¼ inches.
