Papakosta Qualifies for NCAA Indoor Championships

THE FLATS – After qualifying in the women’s high jump, Shanty Papakosta is set to represent the Georgia Tech track and field teams at the 2023 NCAA Division I Indoor Championships in Albuquerque, N.M., as announced by the NCAA Committee. The championship will be hosted by the University of New Mexico from March 10-11 at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Papakosta earned her qualifying mark in the women’s high jump last week at the 2023 ACC Championships where she took first place in the event. The junior recorded three new personal-best marks on her way to claiming the gold medal in the event.

Papakosta had already won the event after successfully clearing the 1.83m height (6-0), but she was keen on continuing the challenge. Only competing with herself, Papakosta passed the 1.86m (6-1.25) height and concluded the event after clearing the 1.89m (6-2.25) mark. After this performance, Papakosta found herself tied for the fifth-best mark in the nation. For reference, her previous personal best was 1.80 meters (5-10.75).

Papakosta is the first member of Tech’s track and field team to qualify for the NCAA Indoor Championships in the women’s high jump since the school record holder in the event, Chaunte Howard, in 2005.

Watch & Live Stream Info: ESPN+ will stream the championships live starting at 11:30 a.m. ET on Friday, March 10 and starting at 1:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, March 11. There will be two re-airs of the meet via ESPNU; 6 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 12 and 7 p.m. ET on Monday, March 13.
