Paez, Person and Silverio Named Wendy's Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week

ATLANTA – Georgia Tech standouts Daisy Paez, Montrell Person and Alison Silverio were named the Wendy’s Georgia Tech Student-Athletes of the Week for Monday, April 25, 2005.

Paez, a native of Loxahatchee, Fla., led the 18th-ranked Yellow Jackets to a 3-1 week, including a win over archrival No. 12 Georgia. During the week, Paez went 2-for-5, with one RBI and drew two walks to lead Tech to wins over UGA, 4-3, and Georgia State, 7-0. On Saturday against ACC foe Virginia Tech, the Loxahatchee, Fla., native tied a single game Tech record with home runs on consecutive at bats, finishing the afternoon 3-for-4, with five runs batted in, three walks and two dingers. Paez finished the week with a .556 batting average (5-for-9), with two home runs, six RBIs, five walks and posted a 1.222 slugging percentage and .714 on base percentage.

Person, a senior from Merriville, Ind., won the 110-meter high hurdles with a season-best time of 13.89 to claim his fourth ACC title and lead the men’s track and field team to a fifth-place finish at the 2005 Outdoor ACC Championships. He posted a fifth-place finish in the men’s 100 meters with a season-best time of 10.80.

Silverio, a sophomore from Louisville, Ohio, led the women’s team to its first ACC Championship in school history with a 4-3 win over Miami. During the tournament, she went 3-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles, including the clinching match at No. 4 singles against Miami. For her performance, she was named the ACC Championship MVP.
