ATLANTA – Junior outside hitter Maja Pachale (pictured) recorded an impressive 22 kills and 10 digs in just three games as the Georgia Tech volleyball team (15-4, 6-1) defeated Clemson University (8-11, 3-4) on Tuesday night, 15-7, 15-5, 15-6 in front of 689 fans. The win marks the best conference start for the Jackets since joining the Atlantic Coast Conference in 1982.
The Jackets dominated the match throughout, hitting a season-high .406 as a team, while also outdigging their opposition 49 to 33. Pachale was virtually automatic on the night as she tallied her 22 kills on just 34 attempts (.529). Eida Mabry also had a solid night as she recorded 12 kills on 21 attempts (.381), and Teryl Townsend notched six kills on just 11 attempts (.455). Kyleen Bell also turned in a steady performance as she recorded eight kills, two service aces, five digs, and four blocks. Kele Eveland notched 35 assists on the night while Courtney Adler added 12.
Playing without all-ACC setter Jesse Betcher who was sidelined with a leg injury, the Tigers struggled hitting just .184 as a team. They were led by freshman outside hitter Kiki Dallao who tallied 14 kills in the match. Meredith Kirtland recorded 11 digs.
Georgia Tech will travel to Tallahassee to face conference foe Florida State (13-7, 2-4) at 7 p.m. on Friday in Tully Gym.
