ATLANTA (May 26) — Georgia Tech athletes Laura Ozolins and Judy Johnson earned GTE Academic All-District III Women’s At-Large Team honors, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced today, May 26.
Ozolins is one of 10 women from five sports named to the first team. A sophomore tennis player from Toronto, Ontario, Ozolins has a 3.94 grade point average in biology and posted a 21-10 individual record while helping lead the Yellow Jackets to their first NCAA Tournament berth in school history. Ozolins compiled a 15-5 record in dual matches, including a 6-3 mark against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
Johnson, a senior on the Georgia Tech women’s track and field team, was named to the second team. Johnson owns a 3.42 GPA in civil engineering. She earned all-ACC honors with a third-place finish in the 10,000 meters and placed eighth in the 5,000 meters at the 2000 ACC Outdoor Championships. Johnson also won the 10,000-meter race at the Penn Relays with a personal-best and NCAA provisional qualifying time of 34:41.30.
Georgia Tech is one of five institution’s with two athletes on the GTE Academic All-District III Spring At-Large Women’s Team.
