GAINESVILLE, FLA. – Georgia Tech women’s tennis’ run at the 2011 USTA/ITA Southeast Regional Championship came to an end on Sunday at the Ring Tennis Complex on the University of Florida campus in Gainesville, Fla., when senior Jillian O’Neill and freshman Jasmine Minor lost singles matches.
O’Neill, ranked 21st, battled past No. 37 ranked Olivia Janowicz of Florida, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 6-3, in the main draw quarterfinals. O’Neill then had to face fifth-ranked and top-seeded Lauren Embree of Florida in the semifinals, and dropped a tough 6-4, 6-2, decision to the Gator.
Yellow Jacket freshman Jasmine Minor continued her strong run in the consolation bracket on Sunday. Minor rallied past Kennesaw State’s Vera Shkundina, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, in the quarterfinals, but fell to North Florida’s Aline Berkenbrock, 6-3, 6-1, in the consolation semifinals.
The Yellow Jackets have one event left on their fall schedule, the Purdue Invitational, to be played Nov. 4-6 on the Boilermakers’ campus in West Lafayette, Ind.
