North, Kenny Showcase Talents for "Special Pops" Charity

Nov. 12, 2007

ATLANTA – With the fall season over and the dual season still two months away, Georgia Tech men’s tennis players David North and Doug Kenny kept busy by taking part in an exhibition match at the Roswell Country Club to help raise money for “Special Pops” on Sunday.

“Special Pops” (Special Populations Tennis Program, Inc.) is a non-profit organization that offers year-round tennis training and competition to children and adults with intellectual disabilities.

“David and Doug did a tremendous job,” head coach Kenny Thorne said. “It is always great to have a chance to help out “Special Pops”. The Special Olympic athletes are truly inspirational to all of us.”

With a couple hundred people in attendance, the Jackets took part in an exhibition match with former pro Justin Gimelstob and former Davis Cup captain Tom Gorman. After the exhibition, the athletes played with the “Special Pops” participants and later helped with a raffle and an auction to help raise money for the organization.
