Athens, Ga. – The doubles team of David North and Scott Blackmon defeated Trevor Wilson and Francisco Suro of Georgia to advance to the semifinals of the Southern Intercollegiate at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga. Tech and Georgia opted to play the match Sunday, rather than wait until the scheduled time on Monday. The Tech duo will face either Ricardo Gonzalez and Matic Omerzel of Georgia or R.J. Murray and Billy Mertz of Alabama.
In other doubles action Georgia Tech’s Jose Luis Muguruza and Marko Rajevac fell to the South Alabama pair of Franticek Babej and David Kepka in the quarterfinals of the Southern Intercollegiate.
Muguruza fell in the quarterfinals to Greg Oulette of Florida (6-1, 6-1) in singles action. In the Consolation Draw, George Gvelesiani defeated No. 3 seed Alex Hume of Kentucky in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, Gvelesiani fell in three sets to Matthew Berry of Tennessee, 7-5, 2-6, 10-8. North lost to Kai Schledorn of Middle Tennessee State in the quarterfinals of the Consolation Draw, 6-2, 6-2.
The 36th Annual Southern Intercollegiate will conclude Monday, September, 27, 2004, at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex in Athens, Ga.
