MADISON, Wisc. – The ninth-ranked Georgia Tech Women’s Tennis team dropped its first match of the season when it fell to No. 3 California, 5-2, Friday evening at Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus.
The Yellow Jackets fell behind early when the Golden Bears swept all three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead. After winning at No. 2 doubles, Cal’s tandem of Tayler Davis and Annie Goransson clinched the point with an 8-3 win over Lynn Blau and Elizabeth Kilborn on court three.
Cal moved ahead 2-0 when No. 10 Marina Cossou upended Techs’ Sasha Krupina, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 2 singles.
Senior Amanda McDowell put the Jackets on the board behind a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kasia Siwosz at the fourth singles position. Davis would push the Golden Bears lead to 3-1 when she defeated Kilborn, 6-4, 6-3, at the No. 6 spot in the lineup.
No. 83 Mari Andersson then clinched the match for Cal with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Viet Ha Ngo at No. 3 singles.
