No. 8 McDaniel/Martin Advance to Doubles Quarterfinals

Gainesville, Fla. – The No. 8 doubles pairing in the nation Marcus McDaniel/Andres Martin advanced to the quarterfinals of the ITA Southeast Regionals Friday winning two matches.

The pairing won both matches by a score of 8-3. Their first match of the day came against Roddick/Pavel of UCF followed by Wayenburg/Georgadze of Miami for their second win on the day. The next matchup for the pair is Jalif/Jankulovski of Miami.

In singles action, No. 31 singles player Martin continued his dominance on the courts with a 6-1, 6-1, win over Randy Wilson of Florida Gulf Coast University. Keshav Chopra took his main draw match against Mathis Debru of Gerogia, 6-1, 6-4. Pablo Schelcher beat John Bernard of Florida State, 6-3, 6-4. Ángel Guerrero Melgar took his consolation match against Alexandros Roumpis of Georgia Southern, 6-4, 1-6, 12-10.

Martin, Chopra and Schlecher all have main draw singles action still to go in the tournament.

No. 26 McDaniel dropped a close singles match 7-6(5), 7-5, to Nate Bonetto of Florida. Chen Dong took on No. 15 Phillip Henning of Georgia dropping the match 6-2, 6-3. Guerrero Melgar/Schlecher lost a close contest to the No. 43 doubles pairing Grinvalds/Duarte 8-6. Chopra/Dong nearly beat the No. 11 doubles pairing Hannestad/Aubone, 8-7(6).

Action continues Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regionals.
