No. 8 Jackets Open Round of 16 Play Friday Against Oklahoma State

THE FLATS – The eighth-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team is set to open the 2017 NCAA Tournament round of 16 Friday night. The Jackets face No. 9 Oklahoma State at 7 p.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia.

THE SCENE: On the line Friday night is a spot in the quarterfinals of the 2017 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championship. The Jackets reached the round of 16 upending Alabama State and Northwestern, both in 4-0 decisions. Tech enters the action carrying a 27-4 overall record and will be making its second-straight round of 16 appearance.

Oklahoma State, making its third-straight round of 16 appearance, enters the weekend action with a 24-5 overall ledger after claiming the regional title with 4-0 sweeps over UMKC and Arkansas. The Jackets and Cowgirls have met twice before in program history with the teams splitting the matchups.

The winner Friday night will advance to the quarterfinals on Sunday at 4 p.m. and will meet the winner of the No. 1 Florida and No. 16 Texas A&M matchup. Tech last reached the quarterfinals in 2008.

ITA RANKINGS – In the latest ITA rankings, Tech sits at No. 8 nationally and boasts three Jackets ranked nationally in singles: No. 36 Johnnise Renaud, No. 48 Rasheeda McAdoo and No. 96 Paige Hourigan. Tech has two doubles tandems ranked in No. 23 Johnnise Renaud/Rasheeda McAdoo and No. 29 Paige Hourigan/Kenya Jones.

The Cowgirls, ranked ninth in the country, have five singles players nationally ranked in No. 8 Viktoriya Lushkova, No. 56 Katarina Adamovic, No. 63 Vladica Babic, No. 73 Aliona Bolsova and No. 94 Carla Tur Mari. OSU boasts four doubles tandems nationally ranked: No. 13 Vladica Babic/Carla Tur Mari, No. 33 Vladica Babic/Katarina Adamovic, No. 48 Aloina Bolsova/Sofia Blanco, No. 70 Viktoriya Lushkova/Katarina Adamovic
