ATLANTA – The seventh-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team has earned the fourth seed in the 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Women’s Tennis Tournament, which runs from Thursday, April 16 – Sunday, April 19 at the Cary Tennis Center in Cary, N.C.
“We are excited to go back to Cary where we have had so many good memories and compete for a championship,” Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton said.
The Yellow Jackets, who finished the season with a 16-6 overall record and were 9-2 in the ACC, will face either fifth-seeded Florida State or 12th-seeded NC State in the second round on Friday at noon.
“We look at the ACC as the strongest conference in the country and we have faced every team and feel we are capable of beating any team in the country,” Shelton said. “Our mission is to take one match at a time and we will put all our attention towards getting our first win.”
Tech defeated both the Seminoles and Wolfpack this season. The Jackets have won six straight over Florida State and are riding a 14-match win streak over NC State.
The top three seeds in this season’s ACC Tournament are Miami, Duke and Clemson. The championship match is slated for Saturday at 11 a.m.
