WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Freshman Irina Falconi clinched her second match in a row with a straight-set win over Sasha Kulikova to lead the sixth-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team to a 7-0 win over Wake Forest (12-5, 3-2 ACC) Saturday at the Wake Forest Indoor Tennis Center.
Falconi, the seventh-ranked player in the nation, picked up her fourth straight singles victory from the top spot in the lineup with a 6-0, 6-2 defeat of No. 51 Kulikova to clinch the match. The Yellow Jackets moved to 12-5 on the season and 5-1 in the ACC.
Junior Amanda McDowell continued her hot streak by defeating Sierra Poske, 6-1, 6-0 on court two. McDowell has won seven of her last eight singles matches for Tech.
The Jackets’ Noelle Hickey, Christy Striplin, Sasha Krupina and Viet Ha Ngo also picked up singles victories Saturday.
Tech opened the day by taking two of three doubles matches including Krupina and Falconi’s 8-4 win over Emilee Malvehy and Aileen Davis in the second flight to clinch the point.
The Yellow Jackets will close out their three-match road trip Sunday at NC State. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
