No. 6 Women's Tennis Team Cruises Past NC State

ATLANTA–Senior Alison Silverio recorded wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles to lead the sixth-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team to its eighth straight Atlantic Coast Conference victory with a 6-1 win at No. 45 NC State Sunday.

The Yellow Jackets improved to 17-4 overall and 8-1 in the ACC and stand tied with Clemson, also 8-1 in the ACC, atop the league standings heading into the final weekend of conference play.

Silverio teamed with freshman Amanda Craddock for a 9-7 victory over Daria Petrovic and Alejandra Guerra at No. 1 doubles after rallying from a 7-5 deficit. The Tech team of Kristi Miller and Amanda McDowell defeated Kate Green and Julia Roach, 8-6, at No. 2 doubles, while Tarryn Rudman and Kirsten Flower cruised to an 8-2 win at No. 3 as Tech swept the three flights to earn the doubles point.

Kristi Miller, ranked fifth in the nation, needed three sets to down No. 100 Daria Petrovic at No. 1 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. But Silverio, ranked 80th, Craddock, ranked 69th, Rudman and Flower, ranked No. 30, all won in straight sets, combining to lose just nine games in the four matches.

Silverio downed Alejandra Guerra, 6-4, 6-1, at No. 2 singles, and Craddock earned a 6-2, 6-0 win over Catherine Grotz at the No. 3 flight. Rudman won 6-2, 6-0 over Julia Roach at No. 5 singles, while Flower blanked Neils Barringer, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 6.

NC State’s lone point came at No. 4 singles, where Kate Green outlasted Tech’s Amanda McDowell in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The Wolfpack fell to 12-8 overall, 3-6 in the ACC.

Tech plays its final home match of the season Wednesday as the Yellow Jackets host Furman at 2 p.m. at the Bill Moore Tennis Center. Seniors Alison Silverio and Tarryn Rudman will be honored prior to the match.
