“It is quite an honor for us to host, and I’m so proud of our team and the season that we have had so far,” said Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “We still have our work cut out for us, with tough teams in Tennessee, Penn and Southeastern Louisiana coming in. We are looking no further than Southeastern Louisiana, however, as they enter with a great record. We’re excited about the opportunity that we’ve been given in hosting and we’re hoping that the stands are full of white and gold, cheering on the Yellow Jackets.”

With the 2006 bid, Georgia Tech will be making its seventh consecutive appearance in the NCAA Championships after never earning a bid prior to 2000. The Yellow Jackets are 6-6 all-time in the NCAA’s, and have advanced to the second round in five of six appearances in the postseason tournament, including their best showing, a Sweet-16 berth, in 2005.

A season ago, the Yellow Jackets hosted the first and second rounds at the Bill Moore Tennis Center, where they defeated both Winthrop and Pepperdine, 4-0, before falling in a tough 4-3 match to eventual national runner-up Texas in the Round of 16 in Athens, Ga.

The Yellow Jackets earned an automatic bid for the second time in the history of the program by earning its second-straight ACC Championship almost two weeks ago with a 4-1 win over Miami in the championship match.

Defending NCAA Champion Stanford (24-0) is the top seed this year as the Cardinal own a 79-match win streak dating back to the 2004 season. Notre Dame (24-1) is the No. 2 seed. Following the Stanford and Notre Dame in the top-16 seeding are (in order): Southern Cal, Florida, Baylor, Georgia Tech, Miami (Fla.), Duke, North Carolina, California, Northwestern, Vanderbilt, Pepperdine, Virginia Commonwealth, Clemson and TCU.

Along with Georgia Tech, 2006 NCAA Regionals will also be hosted by each of the top-16 seeds. The 16 regional winners advance to the NCAA Sweet 16, May 18-22 at Stanford.

The Yellow Jackets are one of nine Atlantic Coast Conference teams to earn bids to this year’s NCAA Championships, while eight men’s ACC teams earned a postseason nod.

The fields for the NCAA singles and doubles championships will be released on Thursday at www.ncaasports.com by 6 p.m. ET.
