ATLANTA – The No. 4 Georgia Tech women’s tennis team will close out its regular season this weekend in Virginia with matches against Virginia Tech Saturday and at the University of Virginia on Sunday. The Yellow Jackets (18-4, 8-1 ACC) and Hokies will square off at 12 noon in Blacksburg before traveling to Charlottesville for an 11 a.m. match Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets are currently tied for the league lead with Clemson, who also enters the weekend with an 8-1 conference record. The Tigers will face Virginia Saturday and Virginia Tech Sunday to close out their regular season.
“We certainly want to finish on a strong note this weekend against Virginia Tech and Virginia,” said Georgia Tech head coach Bryan Shelton. “We want to have as much momentum as possible heading into the ACC Tournament.”
Georgia Tech and Virginia Tech (12-10, 2-7 ACC) will be facing each other for the seventh time in history, with the Yellow Jackets holding a 4-2 lead in the series after winning the last four matches.
Georgia Tech leads Virginia (10-8, 4-5 ACC), 15-10 in a series that dates to 1984, with the Yellow Jackets holding entering the weekend with a three-match winning streak against the Cavaliers. Tech has won seven of the last eight matches between the two schools.
The Yellow Jackets will return to Atlanta following Sunday’s match to prepare for the upcoming ACC Tournament, which begins this Thursday in Cary, NC
