THE FLATS – The eighth-seeded and No. 38-ranked Georgia Tech women’s tennis team opens ACC Championship play on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. facing ninth-seeded and 30th-ranked Syracuse.
THE SCENE: Georgia Tech defeated Syracuse in regular season play, 4-3, and seeks its fifth ACC Championship this week in Cary. Tech brings a 12-11 overall record into tournament week and closed out the regular season with a 7-7 league mark.
Last season, the Jackets advanced to the semifinal round before falling to North Carolina, 4-3. The winner of Thursday’s match will face top-seeded North Carolina on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
Syracuse closed the regular season with a 12-11 overall mark and a 5-9 league record. The Orange concluded the regular season on a three-match skid. Last season, Tech defeated Syracuse in the quarterfinal round of the ACC Championship, 4-2.
