No. 32 Georgia Tech Men's Tennis Nets 5-2 Win over No. 49 Virginia Tech

Scott Blackmon won at No. 2 doubles and captured the clinching point in singles as the No. 32 Georgia Tech men’s tennis team broke an eight-match losing streak, defeating No. Virginia Tech, 5-2. With the win, the Yellow Jackets improve to 7-8, 1-6 ACC while the Hokies drop to 12-9, 3-4 ACC.

For the first time in nearly a month, the Yellow Jackets claimed the doubles point, winning at the No. 1 and No. 2 spots. Tech started things off with a win at No. 1 as North and Rajevac posted an 8-4 win over Arvid Puranen and Brent Wilkins. The Yellow Jackets then earned the point as the team of Scott Blackmon and Zachary Rath won at No. 2 over David Rosenfeld and Alexei Sergeev, 8-5. In the final doubles match of the day, Albert Larregola and Nicholas Delgado recorded an 8-4 win over Jordan Delass and George Gvelesiani.

The Jackets took a 2-0 lead when Rath quickly won at No. 3 singles over Rosenfeld, 6-1, 6-2. The difference then became 3-0 when North defeated Sergeev at No. 4, 6-0, 6-4. Scott Blackmon then clinched the match for the Jackets when recorded a 7-5, 7-6 (5) win against Brandon Corace at No. 6 singles.

Once the match was clinched, No. 105 Puranen came from behind to defeat Rajevac at No. 1, 5-7, 6-4, 6-4 giving the Hokies their first point. The score then became 5-1 as after dropping the first set, Delass netted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 over Larregola. In the final match of the afternoon, Gvelesiani dropped a three-set match to Delgado at No. 5, 3-6, 6-4, 3-6, giving the Hokies their second point on the afternoon.

The Yellow Jackets will return to action Friday when they travel to the state of North Carolina to face NC State at 2:30 p.m.
